Trailer Tuesday

It’s that time again! Welcome to another Trailer Tuesday! We got a HUGE trailer that debuted over the weekend and much more. Let’s get right to it!

Boss Level

Directed by

Joe Carnahan

Starring Frank Grillo, Frank Grillo, Mel Gibson, Naomi Watts, Michelle Yeoh

Plot: A retired special forces officer is trapped in a never ending time loop on the day of his death.

Film Fan Dojo reaction: What happens when you are stuck in a never ending “death loop,” being killed over and over agin by the same people all orchestrated by a madman (Mel Gibson)? You, of course, are contacted by your ex wife and you get a badass female kung fu master (Michelle Yeoh) to teach you how to use a sword and fight back! Fran Grillo stars as  Roy Pulver who is the guy stuck in the “death loop.” Based on the trailer Boss Level looks like a lot of fun and doesn’t seem to take itself too seriously (which is a good thing). As an action-sci fi movie, the trailer shows explosions, gun battle, car chases and what we really like : fight scenes!  We are treated to some Wushu (with a sword) courtesy of Guan Yin (Selena Lo) and some sword training between Dai Feng (Michelle Yeoh) and Roy (Grillo)! The fight scene clips look fast and furious and I am hoping we get to see Michelle and Selena’s characters swap Wushu skills in this film. The fight choreographer is Bryan Sloyer who has worked on Aquaman, Logan and Birds of Prey. Boss Level  premieres on Hulu on March 5.

Black Widow

Directed by

Cate Shortland

Starring Scarlett Johansson, Florence Pugh, David Harbour , William Hurt, Rachel Weisz

Plot: In Marvel Studios’ action-packed spy thriller “Black Widow,” Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow confronts the darker parts of her ledger when a dangerous conspiracy with ties to her past arises. Pursued by a force that will stop at nothing to bring her down, Natasha must deal with her history as a spy and the broken relationships left in her wake long before she became an Avenger.

Film Fan Dojo reaction: Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson) finally gets her solo MCU movie! Black Widow has become a favorite character of MCU fan due to her sharp whit and her killer skills! This movie seeks to showcase her stories, her background, and her legacy. Set in between Captain America: Civil War and Avengers:  Infinity we are going to see what Black Widow can do when not constrained by the rest of the team! Judging by the action in the trailer we will not be disappointed. Black Widow is a martial srts based character so we are going to be treated to plenty of fight scenes! Scarlett Johansson will be doubled in the more acrobatic and dangerous fight actions by the more than capable Heidi Moneymaker ( Captain America: Civil War  and Avengers: Endgame) and Lucy Jayne Murray (also doubling for Florence Pugh). And let’s not forget the man who can imitate any fighting style he sees The Taskmaster! Add in Red Guardian (David Harbour) who we see in clips fighting Taskmaster and we are going to be in for a treat MCU style! Black Widow releases May 7, 2021.

Godzilla vs Kong

Directed by Adam Wingard

Starring Alexander Skarsgård, Millie Bobby Brown, Rebecca Hall

Plot: Fearsome monsters Godzilla and King Kong square off in an epic battle for the ages, while humanity looks to wipe out both of the creatures and take back the planet once and for all.

Film Fan Dojo reaction: YES! We are finally going deeper into the “Monster-Verse” that was hinted at in Godzilla: King of Monsters (2019). Judging by the trailer Kong is more of a beast than expected! In the clips, he seems to be getting the better of Godzilla. But it is Godzilla and he doesn’t go down without a fight. The fight clips look good and we can clearly see their actions. Hopefully, we will get to see their abilities/powers to full effect. I am also hoping that we are not bogged down by a human storyline (a la the first Transformers movie). As a big Godzilla fan, I am hoping for a fight of the ages and the continuation of the “Monster-Verse!”  Let’s keep our fingers crossed!  Godzilla vs Kong releases March 26, 2021.
Wow! We are getting some fan favorite potential blockbusters in March through May. What stood out to you in the trailers? Which trailers have gotten you excited ? Leave your thought in the comments and as always have a great Tuesday!’
