Trailer Tuesday
Desert Strike aka Pharaoh’s War
Directed by Raouf Abd El Aziz

Starring Mike Tyson, Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson, Mahmoud Abdulmoghni, Suzan Najm Aldeen, Ahmed Fahmy
Plot: An ex-military man with a mysterious past leads a group of Egyptian refugees through the desert and must protect them from a group of evil mercenaries.
Film Fan Dojo Reaction: What’s more scary than Mike Tyson? Mike Tyson with guns and Game of Thrones’ The Mountain (Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson)! In the trailer for Desert Strike aka Pharaoh’s War, we get the B movie showdown of a lifetime: Mike Tyson vs Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson. This movie looks like it’s going to be so bad, it’s good…well, entertaining! Gun battles, small car chases, explosions, young actors pulling standard fight scene moves: all the makings of a straight-to-streaming action movie. Desert Strike is set for release on VOD in early 2021.
Outside the Wire
Directed by Mikael Håfström

Starring Anthony Mackie, Pilou Asbæk, Emily Beecham, Michael Kelly, Kristina Tonteri-Young, Damson Idris, Enzo Cilenti
Plot:Set in the future, Harp (Damson Idris), a drone pilot, is sent into a deadly militarized zone where he finds himself working for Leo (Anthony Mackie), an android officer, tasked to locate a doomsday device before the insurgents do.
Film Fan Dojo reaction: “He’s stronger, faster, smarter.” Anthony Mackie (Marvel Cinematic Universe’s The Falcon) is becoming quite the action star, especially at Netflix (he was in the last season of Altered Carbon). In the Outside the Wire teaser trailer, Anthony Mackie (Leo) sees plenty of action: firearms, hand to hand combat, multiple attackers, and some cool android on android scenes. We get Emily Beecham ( The Widow from Into the Badlands) as well! I am looking forward to seeing this as I enjoyed Mackie in Altered Carbon! Outside the Wire is scheduled for Netflix release on Jan. 15, 2021.
HK Memoirs
Directed by Robert Jefferson and Robert Samuels

Starring Robert Samuels
Plot: New insight into familiar stories. Stories you’ve NEVER heard, life lessons, gems & jewels. Get ready to go behind the velvet curtain with BOBBY SAMUELS: HONG KONG MEMOIR
Film Fan Dojo reaction: This is what I am talking about!!!! Sifu Robert (Bobby Samuels) has met and worked with THE names in Hong Kong action cinema at the HEIGHT of it’s most creative output! He has worked with Sammo Hung (and became Sammo’s only American disciple) , Colin Chou (The Matrix Reloaded), Yuen Woo Ping (Red Wolf) and is a member of the prestigious Hong Kong Stuntman Association. If you are a fan of HK Action Cinema, HK Memoirs is a must see! From the teaser we get this will be a series of mini-docs with stories and anecdotes that we HK action movie fans will love to hear! Samuels will no doubt bring his love, personal experiences and vast knowledge of Hong Kong action cinema (and its well-known and little known personalities) to bear in this project! I am beyond excited for this! If you want a taste of what old-school HK style fight scenes courtesy of Sifu Samuels check out Shadow Fist! No release date is set for HK Memoirs. State tuned to Film Fan Dojo for release date information!
The Swordsman
Directed by Choi Jae-hoon

Starring Jang Hyuk, Kim Hyeon-soo, Joe Taslim, Jeong Man-sik
Plot: After being blinded in a coup against the king, Joseon’s greatest swordsman (Jang Hyuk) goes into hiding, far removed from his city’s anguish. But when traffickers kidnap his daughter, he has no choice but to unsheathe his sword once more.
Film Fan Dojo reaction: Yes!!!! I have to confess that out of all modern Asian action Cinema, I really like Korean action movies the best right now! As I watched the trailer for The Swordsman I realized why. The tension before the action scenes really set the stage for the intensity of the action! The swordplay looks top notch, the tension is there and the lead character (Jang Hyuk) has a reason to un-retire his killer sword-fighting skills. We also get the red-hot Joe Taslim (Warrior series, The Night Comes for Us, The Raid: Redemption, Mortal Kombat) who is always a treat to watch! Add to the mix the setting is the Joseon Dynasty and I am hooked. The Swordsman is coming to DVD/Blu Ray and VOD Feb 16, 2021 courtesy of Well Go USA.
