It’s that time again! Welcome to #trailer Tuesday. This week we look at the full trailer for Rurouni Kenshin, the Disney+ series Falcon and the Winter Soldier and upcoming kung fu comedy The Paper Tigers. Let’s get to it!

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier

Directed by Kari Skogland

Starring Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Daniel Brühl, Emily VanCamp, Georges St-Pierre, Miki Ishikawa

Plot: Following the events of ‘Avengers: Endgame,’ Sam Wilson/Falcon and Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier team up in a global adventure that tests their abilities — and their patience.

Film Fan Dojo reaction: There’s no secret about my love of MCU movies and after being pleasantly surprised by WandaVision, I am eager to  continue to see the fall out from the events of Avengers: Endgame. This time around we follow the adventures of Sam And Bucky, their dysfunctional friendship, and Zemo’s (Daniel Brehl) quest to rid the world of superheroes as well as the legacy of Captain America’s shield. In the trailer we get a hint at the action we will see: Agent Sharon Carter’s (Emily VanCamp) hand to hand combat, Falcon’s aerial skills and combat, and Bucky’s fight skills, just to highlight a few things. I expect a lot of action in this series and this trailer makes me think I will get it. With the return of GSP as Batroc the Leaper, we should be treated to good fight scene with him, Bucky and/or Falcon (or maybe Agent Carter). Look for The Falcon and The Winter Soldier on Disney+ March 19, 2021.

Rurouni Kenshin: The Final/The Beginning

Directed by Keishi Ohtomo

starring Takeru Satoh, Shin’nosuke Abe, Mackenyu, Tao Tsuchiya, Emi Takei, Yôsuke Eguchi

Plot: Kenshin’s past catches up to him causing the destruction of Akabeko Restaurant, which was Kenshin’s favorite place to eat. There, he finds a note with the word “Junchu” on it.

Film Fan Dojo reaction: YES!!!! One of my favorite animes and I loved the live action adaptions: Rurouni Kenshin: Origins, Kyoto Inferno, The Legend Ends) so I am excited to see the full trailer for The Final/The Beginning. We get the continuation of the story and with action director Kenji Tanigaki we already know we are going to have true to anime fight scenes with some innovative swordplay. Rurouni Kenshin The Final/The Begging hits Japanese theaters (part 1) April 23, 2021 (no US streaming or release date as of yet).

The Paper Tigers

Directed by Quoc Bao Tran

Starring Roger Yuan, Ron Yuan, Mykel Shannon Jenkins, Raymond Ma, Matthew Page, Jae Suh Park, Yuji Okumoto, Brian Le, Andy Le, La’Tevin Alexander

Film Fan Dojo reaction: I read about the production of this movie a couple of years ago and I was looking forward to seeing it. Now, with the release of the official trailer from Well Go USA, I am a little closer to viewing this film. I think it will be worth the wait judging by the trailer. As a martial artist who started in his youth (15) filled with piss and vinegar who grew older, had a family and feeling the effects of age I can relate to the Tigers! The Paper Tigers promises a hilarious, feel good story that many like myself can relate to. And it doesn’t hurt that the fight scene clips look good! In the trailer we can see the toll age has taken on the Tigers but we get glimpses of some nice kung fu style choreography as well as  the appearances of Andy and Brian Le of Martial Club, Mykel Shannon Jenkins who I liked as Turbo in Undisputed 3, Ron Yuan (Mulan) as well as Roger Yuan (Mulan). With this cast  we are no doubt getting challenge fights, multiple attack scenes,  both kung fu and contemporary wushu choreography.  The Paper Tigers looks like it’s going to be a favorite of mine! Thanks to Well Go USA , The Paper Tigers comes to us on  May 07, 2021.
